Rotorua’s Prince’s Gate Archway will be deconstructed after engineering assessments found it could pose a safety risk.

Rotorua's iconic Prince's Gate Archway, built in 1901, is set to be dismantled after engineers warned it could be unsafe in extreme winds, but locals and heritage advocates are pushing for the landmark to be strengthened and restored instead.

Rotorua Mayor Tania Tapsell told Kerre Woodham that there is still a possibility to replace the structure.
