Indian students' interest in NZ holds steady as UK, US see dropping demand

New Zealand appears to be bucking a global downturn in demand from Indian students.
The BBC reports Indian students are increasingly reconsidering study abroad options, driven by a weaker currency, visa restrictions, and dimmer job prospects in the UK and US.
But Waikato University Vice-Chancellor Neil Quigley told Mike Hosking Indian enrolments are expected to hold steady over the next year, matching levels seen over the past 18 months.
He says they're probably at the same level as Chinese students, or possibly stronger.
Quigley says one factor supporting demand here is the relatively weak New Zealand dollar against international currencies.
He says the depreciation of the rupee has not affected the New Zealand dollar as much as it has the pound or US dollar.
