Roading crews and emergency vehicles are assessing the damage following a shallow earthquake in the central North Island this morning.
The 5.9 magnitude struck south of Taumaranui just before 5am, and was felt by more than 20,000 people, some in the South Island.
The Manawatū-Whanganui Emergency Management Group says minor slips have been reported in the area, and motorists should take care while driving.
