Smelly shock: Head girl's car smothered with rotten fish and tomatoes
The father of Mt Roskill Grammar School’s head girl says she was targeted when her car was smothered in rotten fish and tomatoes and has approached police to investigate the incident.
The concerned parent told the Herald his daughter’s car was covered in spoiled fish and canned tomatoes while parked on a side street by the school, during school hours last Friday.
He now has concerns for her safety, citing a previous incident, and has since laid a complaint with police and the school.
Photos of the car parked on Britton Ave, a street popular for student parking, show the food smeared across the front and back windscreens, roof and windows.
Police confirmed it received a report relating to “wilful damage of a vehicle” on October 30.
A spokesperson said the investigation was in the early stages and encouraged anyone with further information to contact police.
Mt Roskill Grammar School has repeatedly been approached for comment.
The car was parked on Britton Ave when the incident happened.
Year 13 “leaver’s pranks” are not uncommon in the final week of high school.
However, other cars parked close by were untouched.
“It’s a prank, yes, but it was an opportunity to target my daughter.
“If it’s getting to this level, it should be stopped.”
He said his daughter, who he described as “level-headed”, remained calm and called him when she saw the vandalism.
The concerned father is now determined to find who was behind it.
He said police were first notified of the vandalism about 3pm on Friday by a nearby resident.
“My daughter saw it around 3.30pm when she left school. She called me and I came with buckets of water to clean it off.
“We had a cricket game on Friday that we were also late for because we had to clean it and get rid of the smell, which was really bad.”
Rotten fish and tomatoes were smeared across the back, front, top and sides of the head girl's car.
The father laid a complaint with police the next day and went door-knocking to see if nearby residents had CCTV footage of the incident.
He claimed the school told him on Wednesday that two boys, one current and one former student, were responsible for the incident.
He claimed it was “brushed off” as a prank and he was not provided with any further information.
“The school should be much more prepared for these situations.
“It was kind of framed as ‘oh it’s a prank it doesn’t matter’ but it’s not okay.
“The school needs to give a warning to its students in their last few days to tell them not to do anything like this.”
The head girl's father cleaned the fish and tomatoes off with buckets of water.
According to the father, it was not the first time his daughter had been targeted.
He claimed someone had written her phone number on sticky notes and posted them “all over” an Auckland central restaurant.
“She was getting calls for six months from all sorts of random people, late at night too, really bad calls.
“When we found out her number was posted in a restaurant we actually went there and found them everywhere and took them down.”
