Charred Penrose substation revealed after inferno sends three to hospital
A witness who was a worker in the area said he was driving past when the incident unfolded.
He said the smoke was “pretty imposing” and that it was coming from the DHL building.
The witness said many sets of traffic lights near Great South Rd had stopped working and power had gone out in the surrounding area.
The plume of smoke can be seen from as far away as Gulf Harbour on Auckland’s North Shore.
