Serious head-on crash in Manurewa, wreckage strewn across road
A speeding car has collided head-on with a ute in a serious crash in a Manurewa street overnight.
The crash happened on Alfriston Rd near the Fleming St intersection, just east of Gallaher Park.
Photos from the scene show a small silver hatchback and a red ute both facing in the same direction, with debris strewn across the road.
Police tape is strung across Alfriston Rd, while a white sheet covers what is believed to be a body on the road.
Sirens and the Police Eagle helicopter could be heard in the area around the time of the crash.
Security footage of the incident posted to a social media page showed a car travelling at high speed on Alfriston Rd before colliding with the ute.
A large number of police were already in Manurewa following the killing of two people in Wattle Downs on Thursday afternoon.
Hato Hone St John was called at 9.45pm and sent a rapid response unit, an ambulance and an operations manager, while Fire and Emergency sent two fire engines after being called at 9.49pm.
Both agencies referred further queries to police.
The Herald has requested comment from police.
