Three men charged after firearm fired at windscreen during road rage incident

Three men are facing charges following a violent South Auckland road rage incident in which a gun was allegedly fired at another vehicle.

Police were alerted to a two-vehicle crash on Rosewood Ave about 5pm on August 26, where a confrontation between the occupants of the vehicles unfolded.

Several people from a Volkswagen allegedly assaulted a person from a Toyota before fleeing the scene, abandoning the car on Cavendish Dr.

Detective Inspector Shaun Vickers, Counties Manukau CIB, said three men had been arrested and charged following an investigation.

The men, aged, 27, 28 and 27, have been remanded in custody and face charges for discharging a firearm, assault with intent to injure and dangerous driving.

“Police are pleased these men have been held to account for this violent behaviour.”

Detective Inspector Vickers said it was “incredibly lucky” no one had been injured in the incident, which followed an altercation between the two vehicles in a nearby carpark.

Two men allegedly got out of a Volkswagen and discharged a firearm into the driver’s side windscreen of the Toyota, before both vehicles drove on to Ronwood Ave and the confrontation continued.

He said police are aware footage of the assault is circulating on social media and asked people to stop sharing the personal information of those involved.

“We strongly urge the community to cease posting photos or personal details of these individuals on social media.

“If anyone has concerns or information relating to offending that is occurring, this should be reported to police immediately so it can be dealt with appropriately.”

Police are seeking further information about the incident and have asked anyone who witnessed it to come forward.
