Watch: Tongan rugby league fans transform petrol station into mosh pit
It was a big night for Tongan rugby league fans, who celebrated their team’s bruising win over Samoa through Sunday night.
In Auckland’s Ōtāhuhu, swathes of Mate Maʻa Tonga fans partied until the early hours of Monday morning.
The team sealed its place in the Rugby League World Cup semi-finals against New Zealand with a 20-18 win over Samoa.
Despite the loss, Samoa will face defending champions Australia in the semis.
Tonga’s win also saw England eliminated, their earliest ever exit from the competition.

In Ōtāhuhu, fans were in full-on party mode, filling the streets with flags, music, joy and pride.
One petrol station forecourt was completely transformed into a mosh pit, with some dancing atop of cars.
At 2.20am, police formed a line to signal that the party was over and asked revellers to move on. Most had left by 3.40am.
Last week, police urged fans to keep their celebrations lawful and considerate.

“Celebrations should not continue into the early hours of the morning as noise unfairly impacts the community when it goes into antisocial hours. Showcase your support and then head home,” said Superintendent Riki Whiu.
On Monday morning, a police spokesperson said officers maintained a visible presence throughout the night, though no major issues were reported.
