Motorists can expect delays after a multi-car crash on Auckland’s Southern Motorway.

Four cars collided on the Southern Motorway near Remuera and Epsom in Auckland, with multiple emergency service vehicles responding, including three fire engines.

Two people had moderate injuries, a police spokesman said.

Two lanes were initially blocked; however, all lanes are now clear and traffic is flowing.

Police warned heavy delays are expected, and advised motorists to seek an alternative route as the backlog clears.

Footage obtained by the Herald shows a car spinning out of control on the road and colliding head on with a barrier.

The car spun around again with the rear of the vehicle then hitting the barrier and it stopping perpendicular to the flow of traffic.

The person behind the wheel then appears to attempt to drive away, but instead collides with a red and a silver car which both come to a stop in the middle of the motorway.

One other car on the same side of the road was then seen coming to a stop about 10 metres away from the collision.

A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesperson said they were alerted about 1.45pm and crews supported police and ambulance.

Photos seen by the Herald show at least one ambulance and several police cars responding.

A Hato Hone St John spokesman said an ambulance went to the scene.

“Our ambulance staff assessed three patients,” the spokesman said.

“One person was in a minor condition, and the other two people were in moderate conditions.”

No one was taken to hospital.
