One person dies after Bay of Plenty crash

One person has died after a single-vehicle crash in Bay of Plenty.

Police were alerted to the crash on Orete Point Rd, Waihau Bay at 12.05pm.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand said one fire truck was sent to the scene, but crews handed the incident over to police after arriving.

“Sadly, one person has died at the scene. Our thoughts are with their loved ones during this difficult time,” police said.

“The Serious Crash Unit has been advised.”

Inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the crash are ongoing.

Motorists are being advised to avoid Orete Point Rd while emergency services respond and investigations are carried out.
