Mystery solved after pool of human blood found in city pedestrian tunnel
Police have solved the mystery surrounding a pool of human blood found in a Wellington pedestrian tunnel.
The blood was found by a person in the Coutts St pedestrian underpass in Rongotai about 10.40pm on Sunday, October 4.
The area was cordoned off while police conducted a scene examination.
Further inquiries determined it was human blood, with the woman who it belonged to confirming it was the result of a “faceplant” after an e-scooter crash.
The woman, who did not want to be named, told RNZ she was bemused by the commentary from the past few days.
“There’s lots of conspiracy theorists that want to think someone’s got vampire blood or it’s a Covid thing,” she told RNZ.
“I’ve heard all sorts. I’ve no time for the gossip side of things. Let’s crack on doing life,” she said.
The woman said she had suffered contusions to the forehead and nose with a “substantial amount of blood”.
She said two men had helped her at the scene, one equipped with a first aid kit, for which she was very grateful.
The woman told RNZ she had visited her GP the day after the crash and then spent the night under observation at Accident and Emergency in Wellington.
She contacted police and was interviewed by officers last week, after an appeal for information was issued via the media.
In an update this afternoon, police confirmed they had identified the source of the blood and it was not suspicious.
“Police would like to thank those who brought this to our attention, and all who provided information after the fact.”
