The two people found dead near Reefton, in the Buller region, earlier this week have been named.

They were Chelsey Anne Russell, 34, of Maimai, and Samuel Frederick Bass, 45, of Crushington.

The pair were found at separate properties on Tuesday, prompting a homicide investigation.

Detective Inspector Geoff Baber said the formal identification process had now been completed.

“Police are providing wrap around support to their loved ones at this difficult time,” Baber said.

“While we are not seeking anyone else in relation to this incident, our investigation into the matter continues.”

Emergency services were called to a State Highway 7 property at Rahu Saddle about 7.50am on Tuesday following concerns for a person.

One person was found dead there. Further inquiries led police to an address on Maimai Rd, where a second person was found dead.

Police have previously said they do not believe there is any risk to the public.

A police presence remains in the area while inquiries continue.
