Watch: Car spotted doing 110km/h on wrong side of motorway
A vehicle has been filmed travelling the wrong way along the Christchurch Southern Motorway as traffic approached from the opposite direction.
Video posted to the Christchurch Dash Cams Facebook group shows a silver car travelling along the opposing carriageway in the same direction as the person filming.
The police said they were alerted to the incident at around 8.50am on Sunday.
The motorist who captured the footage wrote they had been travelling from Rolleston towards Christchurch when they encountered the vehicle after passing Prebbleton.
“I came across this vehicle driving on the right-hand side and causing quite a few problems for other drivers,” they wrote in a Facebook post.
The footage shows the vehicle continuing along the wrong carriageway while vehicles travelling in the correct direction approach it.
At points, other motorists can be seen passing the vehicle as it continues along the motorway.
The person who filmed the incident said they had been travelling at about 110km/h when they came across the vehicle.
“Has anyone seen this vehicle on Sunday or know what happened?” they wrote alongside the footage.
The police said staff were deployed but were unable to locate the vehicle, and those who reported the matter weren’t able to supply a registration number.
They said the vehicle had been seen later, correcting to the right side of the road.
