'Tension': Secondary Principals' Council Chair on why more students are leaving without qualifications

There's cries of an education failure, as the number of students leaving school without qualifications reaches a decade-high.
Ministry of Education data shows over 10,000 students left school last year without NCEA or University Entrance - about 15 percent of all school leavers.
Secondary Principals' Council chair Steve McCracken says schools need to work hard to improve this data, but it's important to remember school isn't the right pathway for everyone.
"However, there should be an avenue in which the students that are leaving actually have a way to exhibit the learning and things that they've done over the last 11 or 12 or 13 years of their schooling."
