US deal with Iran a way to 'paper over a strategic loss', security expert says

Donald Trump is claiming victory and says the full details of his peace deal with Iran will be made public shortly.
The arrangement —to halt all military operations— will be formally signed in Switzerland at the end of the week.
Speaking at the G7 summit in France, the US President says they had to negotiate with changing groups of Iranian leaders.
He says the first and second groups were unhelpful, but the third was very smart.
International security expert Matthew Schmidt told Mike Hosking the deal is essentially a way for the US to paper over a strategic defeat.
He says Iran now believes its regime can survive attacks from even the strongest military in the world.
