Three men charged after knife-point robbery at uptown liquor store
Three men are appearing in court today on aggravated robbery charges after alcohol was taken from an Auckland liquor store where a shopkeeper was allegedly threatened with a knife.
Police say the trio – aged 33, 40 and 46 – fled. However, their Sunday night plans were thrown into disarray after officers found them through CCTV.
A police spokesperson said they were alerted to a Symonds St liquor store incident just before 6pm – three men had reportedly entered the shop and threatened the shopkeeper.
“During the course of this altercation, the shopkeeper has challenged the alleged offenders,” Auckland City crime squad Detective Senior Sergeant Rebecca Kirk said.
“One person has then allegedly presented a large knife and threatened him.”
The men headed in the direction of Grafton Bridge with about five bottles of vodka and a box of RTDs.
Kirk said officers used CCTV, and city camera operators soon found the men.
They were taken into custody without incident.
“This was a good result locating these three alleged offenders and holding them to account for their actions,” Kirk said.
“There is no place for violence like this in our communities.”
All three men were due to appear in Auckland District Court today charged with aggravated robbery.
